At Werder Bremen, only one name has been on the minds of followers of the U23 side in recent days: Justin Njinmah. Now the talented young striker is on his way to Borussia Dortmund II.

Justin Njinmah, the 21-year-old Werder Bremen II striker, has been scoring goals for fun in the Regionalliga Nord this season – and that has not gone unnoticed by Borussia Dortmund II coach Enrico Maaßen and sporting director Ingo Preuß. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the striker is joining the Black and Yellows on an initial 18 month loan deal with an option to buy for a seven digit fee.

Njinmah only joined Werder Bremen II from Holstein Kiel last summer. He had six months left on his contract with Bremen, but signed an extension with them before making the switch to Borussia Dortmund. The Hamburg born and raised striker will initially play for Borussia Dortmund II, who currently occupy 7th place in the 3. Liga standings (the third tier of German football).

Njinmah has scored 14 goals in 18 appearances for Werder Bremen II this season, including a hat-trick against Hildesheim and a brace against LSK Hansa in the Regionaliga-Nord, the Northern division of Germany’s fourth-tier. He is Werder II’s top scorer this season and also has six assists to his name.

Njinmah will have to compete with the likes of Richmond Tachie, Ted Tattermusch and Timo Bornemann for a place in ‘Die Amas‘, starting XI. He will look to replace Steffen Tigges, who has been playing for the senior team this season, in the U-23s attack. Njinmah’s signing is a logical step for a team that has scored only 29 goals in 20 matches this season. And the hope will be that he can continue his fine goalscoring run in the second half of the season.
