Mahmoud Dahoud scored an 89th minute winner as Borussia Dortmund came from two goals behind and claimed a stunning 3-2 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt.

It wouldn’t be a Borussia Dortmund game without plenty of drama, defensive blunders and goals galore. And this one had all of those things and more, as the Black and Yellows scripted an incredible late comeback to down Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to a brace from Rafael Santos Borré, but second half goals from Thorgan Hazard, Jude Bellingham and Mahmoud Dahoud helped Marco Rose’s side claim the comeback win.

It is fair to say that the game was a tale of two halves. Eintracht Frankfurt looked to be cruising going into the break, and they had their chances to add to their two goal lead. But Borussia Dortmund stepped it up in the final 20 minutes, and claimed an incredible comeback win in the end.

With Manuel Akanji and Dan-Axel Zagadou unavailable, Marco Rose decided to go with Emre Can and Mats Hummels as his two centre-backs. While Donyell Malen got the nod to start alongside Erling Haaland and Marco Reus in Borussia Dortmund’s front three.

Borussia Dortmund nearly took the lead in the opening 90 seconds of the game. But Kevin Trapp made a spectacular save to keep out Thomas Meunier’s effort. The Black and Yellows started the game on the front foot and created a couple of decent openings. But it was Eintracht Frankfurt who struck the first blow.

Rafael Santos Borré made it 1-0 in the 15th minute after getting on the end of Filip Kostić’s free-kick. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker then doubled his tally ten minutes later, pouncing on some sloppy Borussia Dortmund defending.

The two goals left Marco Rose’s side looking deflated, and the Eagles came close to adding to their lead on two occasions. Dortmund had a chance to halve the deficit with the final kick of the first half. But Donyell Malen hit the post from point blank range after Trapp made a good save to keep out Hummels’ header from a corner.

Borussia Dortmund looked laboured in possession in the opening 15-20 minutes of the second half as well. And Eintracht Frankfurt had a couple of good chances to add to their lead. Jesper Lindstrøm nutmegged Can to go through on goal. But he wasn’t able to beat Kobel from close range.

Borussia Dortmund’s comeback began with the introduction of Thorgan Hazard, who replaced Julian Brandt. The Belgian international did not take long to make an impact on the game. He made it 2-1 with 20 minutes to go after getting on the end of Erling Haaland’s through ball.

The goal gave Dortmund all the motivation they needed to try and salvage something out of the game. They kept on pushing and the equaliser finally arrived in the 87th minute through Jude Bellingham. The England international headed Meunier’s cross into the back of the net to make it 2-2.

But Borussia Dortmund weren’t done yet. And they got the winner through Mahmoud Dahoud, who fired his shot into the back of the net from 18 yards out. The midfielder’s fourth goal in a BVB shirt sealed a truly incredible victory.

3-2 it ended in Borussia Dortmund’s favour as they closed the gap to Bayern Munich to six points. While Marco Rose will not be thinking about the league leaders just yet, he will certainly be pleased that his side did not give up despite looking down and out after going 2-0 down in the first half.
