Borussia Dortmund reportedly face competition from Manchester United in their bid to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Borussia Dortmund have long been in the race for Denis Zakaria’s signature, and Sky Sport even reported last month that the Black and Yellows are in pole position to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season. But now Manchester United have joined the race for the Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder.

Sport1 claim that Manchester United have already held talks with Zakaria’s entourage, and interim head coach Ralf Rangnick is a big fan of him. However, they have not yet made an offer to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Zakaria has decided not to extend his contract with Gladbach, so they are open to selling him for a cut-price fee this month in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer.

The report does add that Manchester United still haven’t made a final decision on whether they want to sign Zakaria. And so it remains to be seen whether United or any of the other interested clubs will make a bid to sign him this month. Juventus, AS Roma, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with a move for the Switzerland international in recent months.

Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing Zakaria as a replacement for Axel Witsel. The veteran midfielder’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season, and the likelihood is that he will leave Dortmund on a free transfer in the summer.
