Marco Reus (5.5/10)

Reus wasn’t able to make as much of an impact as he would have liked, but he still had an okay game. The Borussia Dortmund captain played three key passes but also failed to take advantage at times when he got on the ball in some really good positions.

Donyell Malen (7/10)

Malen quietly put in a fairly decent performance for his side. He got into some good positions on both wings and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. The Netherlands international also helped set up Mahmoud Dahoud’s goal late on.

Erling Haaland (8/10)

Haaland opened his account for 2022 by scoring a brace for his side. It took him a while to get involved in the game. But he was at his clinical best, as he scored with both good chances he had. His second goal was especially important for Borussia Dortmund as it came at a time when Freiburg were starting to believe in their chances of pulling off a comeback.

Manuel Akanji (6/10)

Akanji was caught a bit out of position before Freiburg’s goal. But other than that he was largely solid on his return after coming on for Emre Can at half time.
