Borussia Dortmund are set to take on second division side FC St. Pauli in the next round of the DFB Pokal this coming Tuesday, January 18th.

As the DFB Pokal resumes this week for Borussia Dortmund, their round of 16 opponents will be FC St. Pauli, who currently lead the 2. Bundesliga, with the Hamburg based side sitting on 37 points.

Borussia Dortmund, for their part, have slowly been navigating their way out of their Hinrunde injury woes and have started the second half of their season with two strong wins against Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg. The 3-2 win against Frankfurt showed a level of perseverance that Dortmund have lacked in previous seasons, while the 5-1 win over Freiburg showed just how well the side can play if they really put their minds to it.

St. Pauli’s form seems to have been stuttering as of late, with the 2. Bundesliga side picking up 2 draws and a loss in their last 3 matches. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to cope with their promotion bid and trying to play a competitive game against Die Schwarzgeblen.

Borussia Dortmund’s defense this season has still left much to be desired, so we can never be sure what version of the Black and Yellows will show up on Tuesday, but they will certainly be expected to progress in this fixture, particularly because they are currently the defending title holders and will be looking to repeat the feat this year.
