Borussia Dortmund begin preparations for crucial February with several players sidelined
Borussia Dortmund began their preparations for what could well be a season defining February on Tuesday. Marco Rose had to make do without several important players.
The international break is upon us, but none of the Borussia Dortmund players have been called up. So Marco Rose will have the chance to work intensively with his squad over the next ten days as they look to prepare for what promises to be a gruelling February.
Marco Rose spoke about wanting to work on defensive improvements after Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 win over TSG Hoffenheim last weekend. And he put his players through their paces on Tuesday in a 90-minute session.
Borussia Dortmund were without a number of key players during Tuesday’s session. Erling Haaland, who suffered a muscular injury during the win over TSG Hoffenheim, is facing a spell on the sidelines. Dortmund haven’t yet revealed how serious his injury is or how long he will be out for, but BILD claimed on Monday that the striker has a torn muscle fibre.
Ruhr Nachrichten report that in addition to Haaland, Manuel Akanji, Mahmoud Dahoud, Thomas Meunier and Emre Can were also not involved in Tuesday’s session. While Donyell Malen trained individually.
Borussia Dortmund have six games coming up over a 21-day period next month. The Black and Yellows will go up against the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Union Berlin, Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. And a crunch two-legged UEFA Europa League knockout round play-off tie against Scottish champions Rangers also awaits them in February.
