Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tobias Raschl joins Greuther Fürth

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Tobias Raschl has joined Greuther Fürth on a permanent transfer for a fee in the low six-figure region. 

Bundesliga strugglers Greuther Fürth have completed the signing of Tobias Raschl, with the talented young midfielder joining on a two and a half year contract. Raschl’s contract with Borussia Dortmund was set to expire at the end of the season. And according to Kicker, the Black and Yellows will receive a transfer fee in the low six-figure region for the 21 year old.

Raschl, who joined Borussia Dortmund in 2015, was once considered to be one of the most promising talents at the club. His impressive performances for the U-19s helped him earn his professional debut in the final game of the 2019/20 season. But that proved to be his only competitive first-team appearance for BVB. Although he did get a few opportunities during pre-season and also made the first-team bench on three occasions this season.

Raschl has been primarily playing in the 3. Liga for the Borussia Dortmund U-23s this season. He has made a total of 22 appearances for Enrico Maaßen’s side, scoring three goals and providing three assists. Now he heads to Greuther Fürth, where he faces the challenging task of helping them avoid relegation in the coming months.

Greuther Fürth find themselves at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, with just two wins from their opening 20 games. They are nine points behind the relegation play-offs spot with 14 games to go in the season.

Raschl becomes the second player to leave Borussia Dortmund this month after Ansgar Knauff, who joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of next season.
