Michael Zorc: Borussia Dortmund on the right track under Marco Rose
By Tushar Bahl
Michael Zorc has praised head coach Marco Rose for the job he has done so far this season at Borussia Dortmund.
It has been a difficult season so far for Borussia Dortmund, with injuries to key players preventing them from making the progress they would have liked. The Black and Yellows have already been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal, and they also find themselves behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings.
Marco Rose has also come under a bit of criticism in recent weeks. But Michael Zorc has given his backing to the Borussia Dortmund head coach. Zorc believes that Rose has done a solid job since taking over as head coach in the summer, adding that BVB are on the right path with him.
In an interview with Kicker, the Borussia Dortmund sporting director said:
"“The elimination in these competitions naturally affected the mood around the team. But overall, we are on a very good path with Marco. We are totally convinced of the path we have chosen with him. We deliberately chose to make this a long-term partnership.”"
Zorc has also praised Rose for the way he has handled everything despite Borussia Dortmund’s injury crises in the first half of the season. “Rose never whined about it (the injuries) and never complained. The points tally in the league, which is absolutely convincing in a ten-year comparison, is proof of the good work he is doing.”
Borussia Dortmund had to deal with a number of injury problems during the hinrunde as several key players, including top-scorer Erling Haaland, were forced to spend time out on the sidelines.
Borussia Dortmund are currently six points behind league leaders Bayern Munich. And they are also in the UEFA Europa League, where they will face Scottish champions Rangers in the knockout round playoffs. Rose will certainly be determined to push Bayern all the way and also lead his team to a deep run in the Europa League this season.
