Marco Rose delighted to have ‘quality player’ Gio Reyna available again

Marco Rose has heaped praise on Gio Reyna, saying that he is delighted to have a quality player like him back in Borussia Dortmund contention.

It has been a long wait, but Gio Reyna is finally in contention to make his return to the squad this weekend as Borussia Dortmund go up against Bayer Leverkusen. For Marco Rose, the return of the highly rated attacking midfielder cannot come quickly enough. The BVB head coach has heaped praise on Reyna on a number of occasions in recent months. And he spoke about the United States international’s quality once again on Friday.

During his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game, Rose said that it is great to have a quality player like Gio Reyna back.

"“Gio is back! Very cool! I’m happy, I really have to say. Seeing Gio in training, how he finds the spaces, how he deals with one-on-one situations, how he also works without the ball. It’s nice and important for us to have a player of this quality back.”"

Reyna made a really encouraging start to the season and looked right at home in his new number eight role before suffering a muscle injury while on international duty with the USMNT at the start of September. He returned to training at the end of November and has been working towards his comeback ever since.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said last month that Gio Reyna will almost be like a new signing for the club in the second half of the season.

Reyna could be back on the Borussia Dortmund bench for the game against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. And after his long spell on the sidelines, everyone at the club will be looking forward to finally seeing him back on the pitch again.
