Marco Reus (4/10)

Ineffective is one word fitting of Marco Reus and his performance against Leverkusen. Despite his best attempts to cause problems to the opposition defenders, it simply wasn’t enough.

Reus and his teammates in attack never seemed to click together and looked like strangers playing together for the first time. Throughout the match we saw BVB players down and lacking a fighting spirit that could’ve helped them reduce their deficit. No one was consistently commanding a change of attitude from the players or looking to get a reaction. But Reus wasn’t able to lead from the front.

Thorgan Hazard (3/10)

Thorgan Hazard also failed to make any impact on the game. Few attempts, few take-ons and little to no idea on how to hurt the Leverkusen defense.

Donyell Malen (3/10)

Few times did the football commentators mention the name of Donyell Malen throughout the game. He did not make any impact on the game whatsoever and looked a shadow of the player we saw in the previous game. He was replaced by Youssoufa Moukoko for the final ten minutes.

Substitutes (N/R)

For the second half, Marco Rose brought on Marius Wolf, Gio Reyna, Youssoufa Moukoko and Steffen Tigges. Reyna made his first appearance following a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Moukoko and Tigges teamed up to hand Dortmund a late consolation goal at the end, while Reyna missed a sitter a few minutes before Leverkusen added their fifth goal.

It was a disappointing night in Dortmund as the team was torn apart, humbled, and humiliated by Bayer Leverkusen. With this result, Leverkusen are just five points behind BVB. Many things have to be carefully analysed in the Borussia Dortmund camp, and hopefully we will see some change soon.
