What will new signing Niklas Süle bring to Borussia Dortmund?

Final Thoughts

Overall, it’s hard to see this as a bad move for Borussia Dortmund going into next season. Not only does this signing shore up Dortmund’s defense, it protects against a potential future exit for Manuel Akanji.

Süle’s overall profile certainly matches the type of player Dortmund need in their back line. He is also a player who seems to hold the club in high regard. He is joining the club and committing to play at the Westfalenstadion in the prime of his career despite likely receiving offers that were far more financially lucrative, and that’s something to commend and appreciate.

The one issue, as mentioned, would be the potential for injuries to hamper his impact. We’ve seen so many players struggle for fitness in Dortmund and one would hope that they can pinpoint this as a need to improve the way they approach treating players with chronic injury histories, particularly when signing one such as Süle to play such an immense role for the side.

If he can stay fit, Süle’s mentality, drive for success and overall quality as a footballer will surely aid Dortmund in their efforts to inch closer towards genuinely competing with Bayern domestically and furthering their goals to build the foundations for a strong and successful future in Germany and abroad.
