Hansi Flick and Mats Hummels played a role in Niklas Süle’s decision to join Borussia Dortmund
Hansi Flick and Mats Hummels were reportedly among the people that Niklas Süle consulted when deciding on whether to make the move to Borussia Dortmund.
Niklas Süle’s impending transfer to Borussia Dortmund this summer continues to steal the spotlight this week as we learn more about the details surrounding the transfer. Sport1 has come out with the news that Niklas Süle consulted Hansi Flick regarding the move.
The current Germany national team and former Bayern Munich coach was very supportive of the defender’s move to Borussia Dortmund. In a conversation with Sport1, Flick congratulated Süle on the move, and also spoke about the move lending itself to intensifying competition within the league.
"“The quality he has is enormously good for the league. This transfer is also a good sign for the national team in view of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, because Niklas is staying in Germany and can continue to show his class here. Borussia Dortmund has made great efforts to sign him. His transfer will be good for the Bundesliga, because it will also heat up the competition in the league again,” Hansi Flick said."
Further, Bild also report that Süle reached out to Mats Hummels to gauge whether or not a move to Dortmund would be suitable. It would seem that whatever conversation they had played its role in convincing Süle of a move to the Westfalenstadion. The pair have played together for the national team as well as for Bayern, which will hopefully help in terms of shortening the time it takes for Süle to settle in when he arrives in the summer.
It is interesting to see two former faces at Bayern provide Süle with advice that may have swayed him towards a move to the Westfalenstadion. For Hummels, seeing his current side strengthen is of course advantageous, while Flick’s reasoning seems to be more centered in making sure he has strong options for the national team moving forward. With links between Borussia Dortmund and Nico Schlotterbeck intensifying over recent weeks, Flick may indeed look to Dortmund to help cultivate the national team’s next great first choice center back pairing as well.
