Borussia Dortmund to be without Erling Haaland for Union Berlin clash
Sunday’s game against Union Berlin will likely come too soon for Erling Haaland as he continues his road to recovery from the muscle injury he suffered last month.
Borussia Dortmund face a crunch away game against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday. But they will most likely have to make do without star striker Erling Haaland, who was absent from training once again on Thursday. The striker is currently recovering from the muscle injury he suffered in the win over TSG Hoffenheim last month, and now looks set to miss his second straight game.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund do not want to take any risks with Erling Haaland’s injury. And the goal for him now is to be fit in time for the first leg of Dortmund’s UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs tie against Rangers. The Black and Yellows are set to host Rangers next Thursday before traveling to Scotland for the second leg a week later.
Meanwhile, Mats Hummels and Emre Can look set to return to the Borussia Dortmund squad for this weekend’s trip to Berlin. The duo missed the game against Bayer Leverkusen but are now back in training. And we could even see them in the starting XI on Sunday.
Marco Rose’s side will be desperate to return to winning ways this weekend following their crushing defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on matchday 21. But Union Berlin are fourth in the standings and have won both their home games against Borussia Dortmund since being promoted to the Bundesliga in 2019. So we could be in for another close game between the two teams.
