Borussia Dortmund have announced that Gio Reyna’s injury is not a serious one, and he should be back in team training in a couple of weeks.
Borussia Dortmund received a big injury scare on Sunday as Gio Reyna was forced to come off just 27 minutes into his first start for the club since late August. The USMNT international walked off the pitch in tears after injuring his thigh, and there were worries that he may have suffered another serious injury.
But Borussia Dortmund have now announced that Reyna’s latest injury is not a serious one. The 19 year old underwent detailed medical examinations on Monday, and the team doctors expect him to be able to take part in team training again within two weeks.
The news will come as a big sigh of relief for everyone at Borussia Dortmund. Reyna has endured a difficult season so far, having suffered a torn muscle fibre while on international duty with the United States in September. The injury kept Reyna out for five months, and Sebastian Kehl revealed last month that it was a very difficult period for the youngster.
Reyna made his return to action earlier this month, and Sunday’s game was only his third appearance for the club since his comeback from injury. Marco Rose said on Sunday that Borussia Dortmund will give the attacking midfielder all the support they can to help him get back to his best.
Reyna has made a total of eight appearances so far this season for Borussia Dortmund, and has two goals to his name.
