Borussia Dortmund faced off against Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Westafalenstadion on Sunday, which culminated in a thrilling 6-0 victory for Die Schwarzgelben.

Borussia Dortmund’s topsy-turvy season has continued to unfold in the most unexpected of fashions as the Black and Yellows came out rampant at the Westfalenstadion on Sunday, putting 6 goals past Borussia Mönchengladbach. The game started off as a “battle of attrition” according to Dortmund head coach Marco Rose, but he also said that the team did a good job of dictating the flow of play in the way that they had envisioned it before kickoff:

"“…the first goal set the tone. We worked hard, defended well and in the early stages we had Greg[or Kobel] to thank for making two outstanding saves. We extended our lead and overall there were some really good moments.” – Marco Rose, Matchday Review (BVB)"

It was clear that Borussia Dortmund needed a reaction after last week’s drubbing at the hands of Rangers in the Europa League. The result will of course be a breath of fresh air for supporters having to watch their side flounder against the Scottish Premier League champions, at home, no less.

The result does underline Dortmund’s inability to remain consistent over the course of the last few months in particular, with many big results coming off the back of some very disappointing displays. In this game in particular, supporters were treated to some of the best football Borussia Dortmund is capable of – high octane, attacking, fluid play. It also provided a rare clean sheet for keeper Gregor Kobel, who was immense throughout, as Rose mentioned in the post-match press conference.

While the result itself is impressive, it still does little to pin down just where Dortmund currently stand in terms of form, and which way their form might sway in the coming games. Lets take a look at some of the key talking points that may clue us in on what to expect moving forward.
