Lukasz Piszczek believes that Borussia Dortmund are more than capable of overcoming a two goal deficit in their UEFA Europa League tie against Rangers.
Borussia Dortmund are set to play what is arguably the most important game of their season so far on Thursday as they travel to the Ibrox Stadium for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League tie against Rangers. The Black and Yellows are facing a two goal deficit going into the second leg, having suffered a shock 4-2 defeat at the Signal Iduna Park in the first leg.
But Lukasz Piszczek is confident that Borussia Dortmund have what it takes to turn the tie around and qualify for the UEFA Europa League round of 16 at Rangers’ expense. The Borussia Dortmund legend believes that the fact that the away goals rule is no longer in place can help Marco Rose’s side.
"In an interview with Sport1, Piszczek said:“The away goals rule doesn’t exist anymore, so that can help us. We need to score an early goal, preferably go into the break with a 2-0 lead and then make it three.”“Hopefully the team will be able to turn it around. It doesn’t look good at first glance, but I firmly believe that this team can still do it. I think they have the guts to go out there and win 3-0.”"
Borussia Dortmund need to win by at least two goals on Thursday to have any chance of eliminating Rangers and going through to the UEFA Europa League round of 16.
Borussia Dortmund prepared for the game against Rangers with a stunning 6-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday. That performance will have no doubt given them a lot of confidence heading into the second leg of the Rangers tie. Although, pulling off a similar result at the Ibrox Stadium will certainly not be an easy task.
Dortmund will be hoping to welcome Erling Haaland back into the squad for Thursday’s game against Rangers.
