Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Erling Haaland for the second leg of their tie against Rangers after the striker did not make the trip to Glasgow.

Borussia Dortmund have received a big blow in their hopes of pulling off a stunning comeback in their UEFA Europa League tie against Rangers, with Erling Haaland set to miss the game.

The Norwegian international took part in full team training on Monday, and there was some hope that he could at least make the matchday squad. But he did not board the flight to Glasgow with the rest of the team on Wednesday morning, and now looks set to miss the second leg of the Rangers tie.

Haaland has been sidelined for a month with a muscle injury, and has missed each of Borussia Dortmund’s last four games. Donyell Malen will likely start up front once again in Haaland’s absence.

The Black and Yellows need to overcome a two goal deficit at the Ibrox Stadium on Thursday if they want to make it through to the UEFA Europa League round of 16. And now they will have to do so without their top scorer.

While Haaland is set to miss the game on Thursday, Thomas Meunier could finally make his return to the squad. The right-back has missed each of Dortmund’s last three games with a muscle injury, but has made the trip to Glasgow. Although it remains to be seen if he will be ready to play from the start.
