Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna is positive that he will be able to return from his injury before next month’s international break.

Gio Reyna has endured a difficult season so far due to injury problems. The attacking midfielder spent five months on the sidelines after suffering a torn muscle fibre in early September. Then after making his comeback earlier this month, he suffered another setback on his return to the Borussia Dortmund starting XI.

Reyna walked off the pitch in tears after injuring his thigh during Dortmund’s 6-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. And there were fears that he could be set for another lengthy period on the sidelines. Fortunately, the Black and Yellows announced earlier this week that the 19 year old’s injury is not a serious one.

The expectation is that Reyna will be able to return to team training within the next couple of weeks. And the USMNT international confirmed that he is hoping to make his comeback before next month’s international break.

"In a media round on Friday, Reyna said:“I’m pretty positive I will be back before the March international break. I’m doing well now, and then I hope I can be back within the next couple of games for Borussia Dortmund.”"

Reyna also spoke about how frustrating it was to not be able to play when he was sidelined with his injury during the first half of the season.

"“Playing is kind of the one time of the day where, whether it is practice or a game, where everything else kind of goes out the window and you just get to kind of relax and play.”“So when something you love so much, it’s kind of just taken away from you for that long and you don’t really know how long you won’t be able to play, I guess it’s kind of frustrating.”"

Reyna enjoyed an impressive start to the season with Borussia Dortmund before suffering his injury while on international duty with the United States. And he also showed glimpses of his sublime quality against Gladbach before he was forced to go off after less than 30 minutes on the pitch.
