Marco Rose laments Borussia Dortmund’s failure to score second goal against Augsburg
Marco Rose was left disappointed as Borussia Dortmund failed to hold on to a one goal lead against FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Borussia Dortmund endured another frustrating 90 minutes on Sunday evening as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the relegation threatened FC Augsburg. After taking the lead in the first half through Thorgan Hazard, the Black and Yellows were not able to go on and score again.
And they were denied the three points in the end, with Noah Sarenren Bazee scoring a well deserved equaliser for Augsburg 12 minutes from time.
The result heaped further pressure on Marco Rose and his side, who are going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment. Rose felt that his players gave it their all under the circumstances on Sunday, but he was disappointed that they were not able to add to their lead early in the second half.
"“I saw a team that tried a lot under the circumstances after Thursday’s game, that didn’t do everything right but still kept control of the game. We made a few simple mistakes, also because Augsburg kept posing us challenges.”“In the beginning of the second half, Augsburg looked a bit unsettled. I think at that stage we should have just scored the second goal and killed the game. It was clear that our energy levels would drop off at some point. That’s when Augsburg got back into the game. We were careless with the crosses and didn’t defend them well.”"
Borussia Dortmund now find themselves eight points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings, and their title challenge appears to be all but over. They have already been knocked out of the UEFA Europa League and the DFB-Pokal.
Rose admitted during his post-match press conference that this is a difficult situation for his team, but he added that they will try to get the most out of the season in the remaining games.
Borussia Dortmund have ten more games to play this season. Up next for them is another tough away game against Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
