Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Silas Ostrzinski star as Borussia Dortmund beat Manchester United in the UEFA Youth League

Borussia Dortmund U-19s came out on top against Manchester United in the UEFA Youth League round of 16 after a thrilling penalty shootout.
Borussia Dortmund are through to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Youth League for the first time in the club’s history after beating Manchester United in a thrilling round of 16 clash.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens twice gave the young Black and Yellows the lead, only for United to get back on level terms through goals from Charlie McNeill and Rhys Bennett. With nothing to separate the two teams after 90 minutes, the game went to a penalty shootout. Silas Ostrzinski stepped up and made two vital saves in the shootout to help Dortmund claim the win.
It was an inspired performance from the Borussia Dortmund U-19s, who showed great resolve defensively and managed to keep United at bay for large parts of the game. And they caused the home side all sorts of problems on the counter attack, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens showing his excellent quality.
The former Manchester City winger gave the Borussia Dortmund U-19s the lead in the 16th minute after being played through on goal by Lion Semic. Charlie McNeill brought United back on level terms just eight minutes later with a fine turn and finish.
Bynoe-Gittens put Dortmund back in front with another special piece of play in the 68th minute. The 17 year old made another darting run into the box and finished coolly past the Manchester United goalkeeper, beating two defenders in the process.
Manchester United started to pile on the pressure in search of a late equaliser, and they got their reward in the 85th minute through Rhys Bennett who found the roof of the net with a thunderous strike.
A penalty shootout followed at the end of an enthralling 90 minutes. And the Borussia Dortmund U-19s won 3-1, with Silas Ostrzinski making two important saves in the shootout. Bynoe-Gittens scored the winning penalty for Mike Tullberg’s side as they sealed their place in the quarterfinals against all odds.
Another exciting tie awaits Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals, as they will go up against one of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. The one-legged tie will be played on March 15/16.
