Borussia Dortmund have announced that Mats Hummels and Raphael Guerreiro have tested positive for Covid-19.
Borussia Dortmund defenders Mats Hummels and Raphael Guerreiro have tested positive for Covid-19, the club has announced. The Portuguese international returned a positive test on Tuesday, and has gone into quarantine.
The Black and Yellows also announced earlier on Tuesday that Hummels is isolating after displaying flu-like symptoms. But it has now been confirmed that the centre-back has also tested positive for Covid-19.
Guerreiro and Hummels will now miss Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday. The duo are also unlikely to be available for next week’s trip to Mainz 05.
All members of the Borussia Dortmund first-team, U-23s squad, coaching and support staff are either 100% vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19.
Meanwhile, there has also been a Covid-19 outbreak at Arminia Bielefeld ahead of Sunday’s game. They announced earlier on Tuesday that there have been several Covid-19 cases at the club, and mainly the coaching and support staff have tested positive.
Arminia Bielefeld did not reveal whether any players have also tested positive, but did add that training will continue as planned for now. At the moment, it remains to be seen if this will have any impact on Sunday’s game.
Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Mainz 05 was postponed last week after a Covid-19 outbreak in the 05ers’ camp. A total of 19 members of the first-team set-up at Mainz 05 tested positive for Covid-19 last week. And the rescheduled game is now set to be played next week.
