Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges out for the rest of the season with a broken ankle
Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges broke his ankle in training and will now be forced to miss the rest of the season.
Borussia Dortmund have announced that striker Steffen Tigges will miss the rest of the season after breaking his left ankle during Wednesday’s training session. The 23 year old suffered his injury without any contact and will now undergo surgery in the coming days.
The injury marks an abrupt end to what has been an encouraging season for Steffen Tigges. The towering striker has established himself as a regular part of the first-team squad this season and has developed into a solid back-up option up front. He has made three starts across all competitions this season, including one in the UEFA Champions League against Ajax.

Tigges has three goals to his name in nine Bundesliga appearances this season. But he will now be forced to miss the remaining ten games of the season.
Tigges’ injury leaves Borussia Dortmund very light in attack, with Erling Haaland and Youssoufa Moukoko also recovering from their respective injuries. While Haaland is closing in on his long-awaited return, Moukoko will be sidelined for a few more weeks.
Borussia Dortmund will be back in action this weekend after a two week break, as they take on Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga. In addition to Tigges, Mats Hummels and Raphael Guerreiro will also miss Sunday’s game as they are in quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19. Thomas Meunier and Dan-Axel Zagadou are also sidelined with injuries at the moment.
