Axel Witsel (7/10)

Witsel scored arguably the most important goal of his Borussia Dortmund career. He showed great positioning and composure to find the back of the net for the winner in the 87th minute. The Belgian international also took a lot more risks with his passing than usual. He was caught out due to his lack of pace on a couple of occasions, but he proved to be the difference maker for his side in the end.

Mahmoud Dahoud (4.5/10)

Dahoud was far from his best as he struggled to gain a foothold in the game. He made a few sloppy passes, received his fifth yellow card of the season for an unnecessary challenge and was then taken off in the second half.

Jude Bellingham (6/10)

Bellingham had some really promising moments, and a few sloppy ones as well. He worked hard for the team but wasn’t able to dominate the midfield battle or offer his usual energy to his team, with Mainz trying to foul him at every possible opportunity.
