Gio Reyna has been named in the United States’ 27 man squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica.

Gio Reyna could make his first appearance for the United States men’s national team since September this month after being included in their 27 man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder will be looking to help the USMNT secure qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The United States are currently second in the CONCACAF Octagonal standings ahead of the final round of qualifiers. The top three teams in the table will directly qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the team that finishes fourth will advance to the play-offs.

The USMNT are due to take on Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica this month, and Reyna’s return will no doubt boost their chances of securing their World Cup spot.

Reyna hasn’t played for the United States national team since early September, when he picked up a hamstring injury during their World Cup qualifier against El Salvador. The injury kept him on the sidelines for five months, and he then suffered another injury setback last month on his first start since his return.

Reyna made his comeback for Borussia Dortmund during last week’s win over Arminia Bielefeld. And he came off the bench to assist the winning goal against Mainz 05 earlier this week. The 19 year old will now be looking to work on getting back to 100% fitness in the coming days and weeks.

Reyna has won nine caps for the United States so far, and has four goals to his name. He also helped the USMNT win the CONCACAF Nations League last year.
