Report: Doubts growing over Dan-Axel Zagadou’s Borussia Dortmund future
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund are still weighing up their options on whether they want to extend Dan-Axel Zagadou’s contract or let him depart in the summer.
Dan-Axel Zagadou’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season. As of right now, no decision has been made on his future. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, doubts are growing as to whether the Frenchman will receive a new contract. The BVB bosses have yet to make an official offer and are still considering whether they want to extend his contract or not.
Zagadou has been forced to deal with a number of injury problems over the last couple of years. He is currently on the road to recovery after suffering a muscle fibre tear last month. The 22 year old is rated very highly, but he has been forced to miss 83 games (as per Transfermarkt) due to injuries over the course of his BVB career.
Zagadou stated before the start of the season that he can imagine staying at Borussia Dortmund beyond the summer. But it remains to be seen whether that will happen. Michael Zorc said in February that BVB are in talks to extend the centre-back’s contract, but that was before he suffered another injury blow.
The Black and Yellows are also being linked with Nico Schlotterbeck. And a possible move for the SC Freiburg centre-back could also have a big impact on Zagadou’s future at Borussia Dortmund.
Manuel Akanji also appears set to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with the Swiss centre-back reportedly looking for a new challenge. Manchester United are being linked with a move for him.
