Borussia Dortmund coach Otto Addo helped Ghana see off the challenge of Nigeria and qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday.

Otto Addo and Ghana booked their 2022 FIFA World Cup ticket on Tuesday after winning their play-off tie against Nigeria on away goals. After playing out a goalless draw in the first leg, Ghana managed to get a 1-1 draw in Tuesday’s second leg which was enough to help them qualify for the  World Cup.

Addo, who is a part of Marco Rose’s coaching staff at Borussia Dortmund, was appointed Ghana’s interim head coach for the World Cup qualification play-offs. He took charge after Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where they failed to qualify for the knockout rounds.

And after this impressive achievement, Ghana will probably want the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and current talent coach to take charge of the team at the World Cup later this year.

The Borussia Dortmund left-back did not feature on Tuesday, with Nuno Mendes replacing him in the starting XI. A brace from Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes helped Portugal claim the win.
