Four players who left Borussia Dortmund too soon
Nuri Sahin
Nuri Sahin was the first big casualty of Dortmund’s success at the beginning of the decade. Coming off an exceptional season in 2010/2011 and capping it off with a Bundesliga title Nuri Sahin was a very hot commodity. Real Madrid were the team to pry Sahin away from his childhood club in the summer of 2011 and from the moment he made his move it must have been full of regret. Sahin got injured before the 2011/2012 season started and never really got his chance in the Madrid squad, making only 4 La Liga appearances before being sent on loan to Liverpool in 2012/2013.
The Liverpool stint didn’t last long, only half a season before he made his eventual return to Dortmund. Sahin might be the strongest example of leaving Dortmund too early as his career was on such an upwards trajectory before being derailed by injuries right after his move. Had he suffered the same injury and still been with Dortmund he would have unquestionably had his spot in the starting XI coming back from injury. Instead missing the first 4 games of the season resulted in him being out of the Madrid squad.
