Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is the most bizarre transfer on this list from a common sense standpoint. Mkhtaryan made his move to Dortmund in the 2013/2014 season as one of the key replacements of the then Bayern bound Mario Gotze. A player with lots of skill and explosiveness he had a solid first season at Dortmund. Coming off his first season, Dortmund fans were expecting a lot more in year two as he was fully integrated into the team. What followed was disastrous, Mkhitaryan was brutal for almost the entirety of the 2014/2015 season. Missing chance after chance he was insanely frustrating to watch.

The came the 2015/2016 season, after a lot of ups and downs “Miki” finally found his home with Thomas Tuchel. By far the managers favorite player, Mkhitaryan went on to record 11 goals and 20 assists in the Bundesliga that season. Everyone was expecting Miki to stay that summer, not having a long track record of success the smart play would be to stay with the manager who believes in you 100% and a place you are comfortable in the team, Dortmund.

Instead he moved to Manchester United and his career has since imploded. For perspective, in his 2015/2016 season he had 11 goals and 20 assists in 34 games. Over the span of 3 and a half seasons and 78 games, Miki had 13 goals and 14 assists in the EPL. Disaster of a decision for Mkhitaryan considering all the factors.
