Mats Hummels gave his backing to under-fire head coach Marco Rose following Borussia Dortmund’s 1-4 defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund had an evening to forget on Saturday as they suffered a 1-4 defeat at home to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. It was supposed to be a special day for the Black and Yellows with the club welcoming 81,365 supporters to the Westfalenstadion for the first time in more than two years. But the day ended in disappointment, whistles and even some chants of ‘Marco Rose out.’

Mats Hummels also heard the ‘Rose out’ shouts during his post-match interview with Sky, and issued a clear response when asked about them. “I’ll talk to them again next season.”

Marco Rose has endured a difficult first season in charge of Borussia Dortmund. But he retains the backing of the BVB bosses, as well as the team’s senior players. Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed last week that the 45 year old will remain in charge next season.

Mats Hummels: The game could have gone very differently in the first half

Mats Hummels felt that the 1-4 scoreline wasn’t a fair reflection of the game. He also said that the game could have gone very differently if Borussia Dortmund managed to make the most of their opportunities in the first half.

"“It’s naturally disappointing for us. We had high hopes with the crowd back. This was by no means a 4-1 game in terms of the performances. Of course, we have to live with the fact that we will be criticized for the result, because that’s just how it is in football. But I believe that Leipzig will also know that things could have gone very differently in the first half.”"

The missed chances proved to be costly for the Black and Yellows, and RB Leipzig made them pay with their clinical counter-attacking play.
