Report: Borussia Dortmund planning to bolster squad in five positions
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund will reportedly look to bolster their squad in five positions in the upcoming summer transfer window.
A busy summer transfer window awaits Borussia Dortmund as they look to revamp their squad. Several big name players could leave the club, and it will be interesting to see who incoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl looks to bring in this summer. According to WAZ, the Black and Yellows would like to bolster their squad in at least five areas in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The newspaper claims that in addition to Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck (potential replacement for Manuel Akanji), Borussia Dortmund would also like to sign a new defensive midfielder and a full-back this summer. Plus, a striker will also be needed if Erling Haaland decides to leave the club in the summer.
WAZ believe that it could potentially take Borussia Dortmund several transfer windows to fully revamp the squad. The club’s finances have been impacted as a result of Covid-19. And if Dortmund are to make a big splash in the transfer market, they will first need to sell some players.
In addition to Haaland and Akanji, Axel Witsel, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard and Nico Schulz could also leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Borussia Dortmund have already completed one signing ahead of the summer transfer window. Niklas Süle will join the club on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer. WAZ add that Dortmund will look to rely on a core group of 15-16 players in the future. And they will be supplemented by inexpensive and hungry players, preferably from the club’s own youth setup.
