By Tushar Bahl
Another tough test awaits Borussia Dortmund on Friday as they take on the resurgent VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund return to Bundesliga action on Friday, looking to recover from last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to RB Leipzig. The Black and Yellows are set to go up against VfB Stuttgart, who are battling to avoid relegation from the Bundesliga.
Stuttgart have found their form in recent weeks, and are currently on a four game unbeaten run. They are 15th in the Bundesliga standings, one point clear of the relegation playoff spot.
Borussia Dortmund have slipped up in each of their last two games, and will be desperate to return to winning ways on Friday. Gio Reyna and Mahmoud Dahoud should return to the starting XI after coming off the bench last weekend. Donyell Malen has not made the trip to Stuttgart.
Former VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Gregor Kobel will return to the Mercedes-Benz Arena for the first time since his summer move to Borussia Dortmund.
It will be interesting to see if Marco Rose continues with a back three or reverts to a back four formation.
Stuttgart will have to make do without star striker Sasa Kalajdzic, who has tested positive for Covid-19. Waldemar Anton is suspended, while Silas Katompa Mvumpa and Mohamed Sankoh are sidelined with injuries. Daniel Didavi is back in individual training, but the game comes too soon for him. Former Borussia Dortmund youth team player Chris Führich looks set to start in the Stuttgart attack.
