Mario Götze feels not joining Liverpool in 2016 was the wrong decision

Mario Götze feels that he should have joined Liverpool instead of Borussia Dortmund when he left Bayern Munich in 2016.
Three years after his shock move to Bayern Munich, Mario Götze made a stunning return to Borussia Dortmund in 2016. Frustrated by his lack of playing time in Bavaria, he returned to Dortmund looking for a fresh start. But Götze has now admitted that he should have joined Liverpool when he left Bayern in 2016.
Jürgen Klopp, who gave Götze his professional debut at Borussia Dortmund, was interested in bringing the playmaker to Liverpool in 2016. And Götze feels that he made the wrong decision by not joining Liverpool.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Götze said:
"“We are still in touch and we spoke back then about me coming to Liverpool. But I wasn’t in a state of mind where I could consider it, that’s why it didn’t happen. Do I regret it? It’s always difficult to look back but if you ask me now then yeah, I should have joined Liverpool for sure. I just made a wrong decision but it’s not a regret.”"
Götze ended up making a total of 103 appearances during his second spell with Borussia Dortmund. And while he showed glimpses of his quality, he wasn’t able to make the desired impact on a consistent basis.

After leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2020, Götze made the switch to PSV Eindhoven. He is currently enjoying an impressive season in the Netherlands, and has eleven goals and ten assists to his name in 45 appearances.
While his last appearance for Germany came all the way back in 2017, Götze is not giving up hope of playing at this year’s FIFA World Cup just yet.
"“The World Cup this year? I have to play well and be fit. If it happens I’ll be happy but I’m not forcing it. The most important thing is to play and enjoy myself. Then you never know.”"

Götze has won a total of 63 caps for Germany, and has 17 goals and 11 assists to his name. He also scored the winning goal for Germany in the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Argentina.
