Jude Bellingham: “The chance to play for Dortmund came and I didn’t really hesitate”
As part of a campaign with Xbox, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham opened up about a number of topics, including his move to BVB, wanting to win the World Cup, and more.
Jude Bellingham’s meteoric rise as a young footballer playing for Birmingham City to playing for Borussia Dortmund has been impressive to say the least. Dortmund brought the young Englishman in during the 2020 summer transfer window. From the off, Bellingham was trusted to play an important role in Dortmund’s midfield despite only being 17 years young.
It’s astounding that such an immense footballing talent came into this world without much of an interest in football growing up. In an interview with Xbox, Bellingham spoke on a number of topics, even stating that he never truly had an interest in football at first:
"“I was never really too interested in football. It was something that I got dragged around to because my dad was a non-league player and a big fan of it. One day it clicked and I just loved it, I went from strength to strength as a player.”"
As Bellingham’s skill and interest in football grew, so did his ambitions and the plans surrounding his development. For Bellingham, there weren’t any second thoughts about joining Dortmund when the opportunity presented itself:
"“The chance to play for Dortmund came and I didn’t really hesitate. Not one second have I ever regretted it or thought ‘this is too hard for me’. I want to rise to the challenge every single day I am there.”"
Bellingham’s move to Dortmund is one that has made total sense since his arrival. As talented as he is, Bellingham picked the perfect stage to make a name for himself. Dortmund’s all out trust in players who have the skill even though they may still be young gives players like Bellingham the ability to develop into world-class stars down the line. Since his arrival, Bellingham has displayed a maturity beyond his years and an aptitude for the game that many players much older than him never develop.
Jude Bellingham is very likely to play a role in England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, and with the way he has developed over the last 18 months, we can expect that he will be ready once he gets his shot. The young English International has dreamed of winning the World Cup since he was very young, so perhaps this tournament could be the breakthrough competition that sees him become the heart and soul of England’s midfield. Cementing his spot in his country’s side will bring him one step closer to achieving his overarching dream.
