Joshua Kimmich: Bayern Munich determined to clinch the Bundesliga title against Borussia Dortmund
Joshua Kimmich has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s game against Bayern Munich by saying that the Bavarians are aiming to clinch the Bundesliga title this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund will make the trip to Munich to take on Bayern this weekend in what should be another absorbing contest between the two sides. The league leaders can secure the Bundesliga title with a win against their closest rivals in the league table on Saturday, further adding to the drama of Der Klassiker.
Joshua Kimmich is looking forward to what he expects will be a special game against Borussia Dortmund. And the Bayern Munich midfielder said that his team’s goal now is to clinch the Bundesliga title this weekend.
"“We definitely want to win the title – especially next week against Dortmund,” Kimmich told DAZN (H/T: Sportbuzzer). “That’s a special game for us and the whole league. That’s the top goal now, to clinch the championship in that game.”"
Bayern Munich maintained their nine point lead over Borussia Dortmund with a 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday. The result marked a strong end to what was a difficult week for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, who were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Villarreal in the quarterfinals.
Kimmich also spoke about Bayern’s shock elimination from the UEFA Champions League on Sunday, and said that he has had a hard time dealing with it over the last few days.
"“Personally, I have already had a very hard time dealing with it. It’s taken a few days. To be honest, it’s still in the back of my mind. We have to review the season. We were knocked out of the Pokal and the Champions League too early.”"
Despite Bayern Munich’s disappointing showings in the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal, they have the Bundesliga title all but wrapped up. Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to play spoilsport and delay their celebrations by a week on Saturday. And it will be interesting to see if the Black and Yellows can finally end their winless run against Bayern.
