Borussia Dortmund are said to be in talks to extend the contract of highly rated right-back Lion Semic, who made his first-team debut last weekend.
Saturday was a memorable day for Lion Semic, as he made his first-team debut for Borussia Dortmund. The 18 year old has been with the Black and Yellows since 2017, and has played an important role in the U-19s’ success this season.
Semic’s current contract with Borussia Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season, and Ruhr Nachrichten report that talks over an extension have been going on for some time now. The newspaper adds that a number of clubs, including 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, have shown an interest in signing the young right-back. But those in charge at BVB are optimistic that Semic will decide to stay at the club beyond the end of the season.
Semic has made 20 appearances so far this season for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s. The attack-minded full-back has three goals and four assists to his name. His best performance arguably came against Manchester United in the UEFA Youth League round of 16, where he set up the opening goal for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Right-back is an area where Borussia Dortmund are lacking cover in the first-team. So if Lion Semic can continue his development in the coming months, he could well get his opportunity in the first-team. The Germany U-19s international has shown that he has the potential to play in the Bundesliga, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
