SC Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck has reportedly agreed to join Borussia Dortmund and the two clubs are in talks over the transfer fee.
Nico Schlotterbeck has made the decision to join Borussia Dortmund, and the transfer could now be completed in the near future. This is being reported by Sky Sport, who add that the defender has agreed to a five year contract with the Black and Yellows and will earn an annual salary of around 4.5 million euros.
The report adds that an agreement between SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund is likely to be reached. Freiburg reportedly want 25 million euros for the 22 year old, while BVB do not want to pay a fixed fee of more than 20 million euros. Schlotterbeck’s current contract with Freiburg expires at the end of the next season.
Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have also shown an interest in signing Schlotterbeck, but it looks like the defender will be making the switch to Borussia Dortmund this summer.
If the transfer goes through, Schlotterbeck will likely replace Manuel Akanji in the squad. Akanji is expected to leave Dortmund this summer, and has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks.
Schlotterbeck is enjoying a breakthrough season with SC Freiburg, and has played a vital role in their impressive run in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. He also won his maiden cap for Germany last month.
Borussia Dortmund have already bolstered their defence ahead of next season with the signing of Niklas Süle from Bayern Munich.
