Borussia Dortmund may have to make do without a number of important players for this weekend’s home game against VfL Bochum.
After playing Dynamo Kyiv in a charity match on Tuesday, the Borussia Dortmund players returned to the training ground on Wednesday to begin preparing for their Bundesliga clash against VfL Bochum. The Black and Yellows do not have a whole lot left to play for, but they will be looking to secure second place in the Bundesliga standings this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund had to make do without ten first-team players against Bayern Munich last weekend, and it is possible that more players could be added to the team’s list of absentees ahead of Saturday’s game.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Jude Bellingham, Marius Wolf and Julian Brandt all missed Wednesday’s training session and it remains to be seen if they are dealing with any injuries. The trio were also absent from the Borussia Dortmund squad for the Dynamo Kyiv game.
Axel Witsel trained with the team on Wednesday, and could replace Emre Can who is suspended for the VfL Bochum game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend.
The newspaper adds that a quick return for Donyell Malen, Thorgan Hazard and Mahmoud Dahoud also appears to be unlikely. And the Bochum game will also come too soon for Mats Hummels. Marco Rose will provide an update on the personnel situation during his pre-match press conference.
Gregor Kobel, Thomas Meunier, Gio Reyna, Steffen Tigges and Mateu Morey are also sidelined with their respective injuries at the moment.
