Borussia Dortmund U-19s hit five past Schalke in first leg of U-19 Bundesliga semi-final
Bradley Fink scored a hat-trick and Julian Rijkhoff netted a brace as the Borussia Dortmund U-19s cruised to a 5-1 win over Schalke 04 in the first leg of their U-19 Bundesliga semi-final tie.
It has been a very special season so far for the Borussia Dortmund U-19s. And they continued their stunning run on Saturday morning by claiming a dominant 5-1 win over Schalke 04 in the first leg of their U-19 Bundesliga semi-final tie.
Head coach Mike Tullberg named a very strong starting XI, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Tom Rothe and Lion Semic returning to the U-19s fresh after making their mark for the first-team. Bradley Fink and Julian Rijkhoff led the attack for the young Black and Yellows.
After making a strong start, the BVB U-19s took the lead in the 32nd minute with Bradley Fink expertly placing the ball into the back of the net after being set up by Lion Semic. But Schalke managed to get back on level terms just before the break on the back of a quick counter-attack.
Borussia Dortmund came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and restored their lead in the 51st minute, with Julian Rijkhoff heading Tom Rothe’s cross into the back of the net. Semic then made an excellent run to set up Fink for BVB’s third, before Rijkhoff doubled his tally and made it 4-1 in the 79th minute.
Fink then completed his hat-trick just two minutes later with the simplest of finishes on the rebound after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens’ initial shot was saved.
The game ended 5-1 in Borussia Dortmund’s favour, and they now have one foot in the final of the U-19 German Championship. The second leg of the semi-final will take place in Schalke next weekend. And if the BVB U-19s can get the job done, they will face one of Hertha BSC and Augsburg in the final.
