Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Karim Adeyemi, with the German international signing a five year contract.
After months of speculation, Borussia Dortmund have finally completed the signing of Karim Adeyemi. The 20 year old will join the Black and Yellows on a five year contract in the summer and RB Salzburg will receive a transfer fee of 30 million euros plus 3 million euros in bonus payments.
Adeyemi, who joined RB Salzburg in 2018, is enjoying an excellent breakthrough campaign in Austria. The highly rated forward has 23 goals and eight assists to his name in 42 appearances across all competitions this season. His performances helped RB Salzburg win the Austrian Bundesliga and reach the UEFA Champions League round of 16 this season.
Adeyemi’s performances also saw him attract the interest of a number of big clubs, including Liverpool, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. But he chose to join Borussia Dortmund because he is convinced that he can compete for and win titles with his new club.
"“As a young boy I was fascinated by the Black & Yellows’ high-tempo football. When I heard about Borussia Dortmund’s interest, it quickly became clear to me that I would like to join BVB. I also signed for the long term because I’m convinced that we’ll be an exciting team that will be able to compete for and win titles in the years to come.”"
Adeyemi, who was a Borussia Dortmund supporter growing up, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent months. And incoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl believes that BVB’s newest signing has enormous potential.
"“His speed and goal-scoring ability are very impressive, and although Karim, at just 20 years old, is already at a very advanced stage in his development as a footballer and athlete, we still see enormous potential in him.”"
Adeyemi becomes Borussia Dortmund’s third signing of the summer transfer window, after Niklas Süle (Bayern Munich) and Nico Schlotterbeck (SC Freiburg). The Black and Yellows will also look to sign a new defensive midfielder, a striker to replace the Manchester City-bound Erling Haaland, and a full-back as they look to overhaul their squad this summer.
