Borussia Dortmund part ways with Marco Rose

Borussia Dortmund have announced that they have parted ways with Marco Rose following their end of season analysis meeting on Thursday.

Borussia Dortmund will need to look for a new head coach after announcing that they are parting ways with Marco Rose. The decision to sack Rose comes a day after an intensive end of season analysis meeting that was attended by Rose, as well as CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, sporting director Michael Zorc, incoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl and external advisor Matthias Sammer.

The decision to part ways with Rose comes as a big shock because the BVB bosses had stated on numerous occasions in recent weeks that the 45 year old will continue as the team’s head coach for next season. But after internal discussions and analysis, those in charge have now decided to part ways with Rose.

"In a statement on the club’s website, Hans-Joachim Watzke said:“This day is not an easy one for all of us, because the mutual respect among us was, is and remains great. After a season that was unsatisfactory for many reasons, we had to recognise that we did not reach our maximum potential in many areas.”"

In addition to Rose, co-trainers Alexander Zickler and René Maric, as well as athletic trainer Patrick Eibenberger will also be leaving Borussia Dortmund.

Marco Rose only joined Borussia Dortmund last summer, and guided the club to a second place finish in his first season in charge. But the Black and Yellows were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League during the group stage, and also failed to meet expectations in the UEFA Europa League and the DFB-Pokal. And the former Gladbach trainer has now paid the price.

It remains to be seen who Borussia Dortmund are planning to appoint as Rose’s successor. Edin Terzic, who is currently the club’s technical director, would be the most obvious choice.
