Nico Schlotterbeck: Marco Rose exit came as a surprise but Borussia Dortmund will find a good solution

New signing Nico Schlotterbeck has admitted that he was left surprised by Borussia Dortmund’s decision to part ways with Marco Rose.

Borussia Dortmund announced on Friday that they are parting ways with Marco Rose, just one year after he took over as head coach. The news of the 45 year old’s exit came as a shock to everyone, including new BVB signing Nico Schlotterbeck.

The defender played his final game for SC Freiburg against RB Leipzig in the final of the DFB-Pokal on Saturday. He delivered an excellent performance and showed the Borussia Dortmund fans what they can expect from him starting from next season.

But SC Freiburg fell just short in the end, as they suffered a heartbreaking defeat on penalties. After the game, Schlotterbeck spoke about Borussia Dortmund’s shock decision to part ways with Marco Rose.

"“It came as a surprise to me, too,” Schlotterbeck told Sky Sport. “But I was convinced of the Borussia Dortmund vision, that’s why I made this move. Now there has been a change of coach, you have to live with that in football. I, of course, had good talks with Marco. I don’t know who will take over yet, but Dortmund will find a good solution.”"

Schlotterbeck also said after Saturday’s defeat in the DFB-Pokal final that his goal is to now bring the trophy to Dortmund next season. Borussia Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal under Edin Terzic last year. And the 39 year old looks set to replace Marco Rose as head coach.

Schlotterbeck has been one of the top performers in the Bundesliga this season. And he will undoubtedly have a crucial role to play if Borussia Dortmund are to be successful next season.

The German international, who was also wanted by Bayern Munich and a number of other clubs, will join the Black and Yellows in the summer for a transfer fee of 20 million euros plus bonuses.
