Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of 31 year old goalkeeper Alexander Meyer, who will join on a free transfer from SSV Jahn Regensburg.

Borussia Dortmund have completed their fifth signing of the summer transfer window, with goalkeeper Alexander Meyer joining on a free transfer from second division side SSV Jahn Regensburg. The 31 year old has signed a two year contract with the Black and Yellows. And he will be the club’s second choice goalkeeper behind Gregor Kobel.

Meyer joins Borussia Dortmund following Marwin Hitz’s decision to leave the club. The Swiss shot-stopper was Dortmund’s second choice goalkeeper, but he has decided to join Swiss side FC Basel in order to get more playing time.

With Roman Bürki also leaving for the MLS, the BVB bosses have moved quickly to sign a new back-up goalkeeper. And Meyer has said that he did not have to think twice when the call from Borussia Dortmund came.

"“When a club like BVB comes calling, I don’t have to think twice. From a sporting point of view, it’s an absolute top team, and there’s no need to even talk about the atmosphere in the stadium. Just thinking about the yellow wall gives me goosebumps. I’m really looking forward to the new role and also to being part of the BVB family.”"

Alexander Meyer is coming off a solid season with SSV Jahn Regensburg. He kept seven clean sheets in 30 2. Bundesliga appearances and helped them avoid relegation. The towering shot-stopper also made his mark during the 2020/21 season, as he helped Jahn Regensburg win three penalty shootouts en-route to the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals.

Borussia Dortmund have also reached an agreement to sign Marcel Lotka on a free transfer from Hertha BSC. And the Berliners have finally agreed to let the highly rated goalkeeper depart after weeks of complications.
