Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Hertha Berlin over the transfer of highly rated goalkeeper Marcel Lotka.

The Marcel Lotka transfer saga has finally come to an end, with Borussia Dortmund signing the Hertha Berlin goalkeeper on a three year contract. An agreement has been reached between the two clubs after weeks of discussions and the threat of a legal dispute.

Borussia Dortmund initially announced the signing of Lotka on March 01, just days after he made his Bundesliga debut for Hertha BSC. But after his impressive performances between the sticks, the Berliners took up an option to extend the goalkeeper’s contract by one year (even though Lotka had already agreed to join BVB). This led to a very complicated situation, but now a solution has been found.

Reports in Germany claim that Hertha have secured a sell-on clause as part of the agreement. So they will be entitled to a percentage of the transfer fee if Borussia Dortmund decide to sell Lotka in the future.

Marcel Lotka is coming off an impressive breakthrough campaign with Hertha BSC. The Poland youth international began the season as their fifth choice goalkeeper. But he made the most of his opportunity and played a vital role in helping Hertha avoid relegation.

Now he is set for a move to Borussia Dortmund, and it will be interesting to see what role he plays next season. The Black and Yellows initially signed him for the U-23s team. But it remains to be seen if his recent breakthrough in the Bundesliga will lead to a rethink.
