Lothar Matthäus is confident that Borussia Dortmund can take advantage of all the uncertainty surrounding Bayern Munich and challenge for the Bundesliga title next season.

It has been a busy off-season so far for Borussia Dortmund, who have already completed seven signings as part of their squad overhaul. Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi and Salih Özcan are among the players who have arrived to bolster the Black and Yellows’ title chances.

And Lothar Matthäus believes that Borussia Dortmund have a realistic chance to compete for the Bundesliga title next season. In his column for Sky Sport, Matthäus wrote that the uncertainty at Bayern Munich can allow Dortmund to take advantage in the title race.

"“(Borussia Dortmund) have already signed three German internationals. The team is slowly but surely taking shape to really challenge FC Bayern for the championship.”“Hans-Joachim Watzke has already predicted that Bayern’s dominance will come to an end in the near future. I agree with him and can understand why. The turmoil at Bayern means that another team could also win the championship.”"

Bayern Munich are dealing with plenty of uncertainties at the moment. Niklas Süle has already left the club to join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. Robert Lewandowski is determined to leave Bayern for Barcelona, and contract talks with Serge Gnabry are stalling.

Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga title for ten straight seasons now. There was great optimism at Borussia Dortmund going into this season, but the team failed to meet expectations in all competitions. Marco Rose paid the price, and the BVB bosses have since appointed Edin Terzic as the new head coach.

And Matthäus believes that everyone at Borussia Dortmund must pull together under Terzic if they want to have any chance of dismantling Bayern Munich.

"“If (Edin) Terzic picks up where he left off with the DFB-Pokal win, the energy in the club is positive and everyone pulls together, there will surely be a change at the top at some point given the developments that have been seen in Munich recently.”“I’m happy to be proven wrong, and I’m really curious to see if the Bayern bosses keep their word and refuse to let Lewandowski leave. It is quite uncertain whether the next season will really be better for the Munich team than the last one.”"
