Marco Reus faces a few weeks on the sidelines after picking up a muscle strain in his right thigh while training with the Germany national team. The Borussia Dortmund captain will now miss Germany’s upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Hungary and Italy.
Reus had already missed Germany’s games against Italy and England due to illness, but the hope was that he would be available for Saturday’s clash against Hungary. But now he is set for some more time on the sidelines.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund are hopeful that the 33 year old will be fully fit again by the start of pre-season training or shortly thereafter.
The Borussia Dortmund players are due to begin their preparations for the start of the new season on June 27. Although the players currently on international duty will likely be given some extra time off.
Elsewhere, Axel Witsel was on target and Thorgan Hazard got an assist as Belgium romped to a 6-1 win over Poland in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday. Poland took the lead at the half hour mark through Robert Lewandowski, but Witsel brought Belgium back on level terms just before half time with a fine finish from the edge of the box.
Belgium then scored five goals in the second half to seal a dominant win, with Thorgan Hazard marking his return from injury with an assist for the sixth goal.
