Report: Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges a target for FC Köln
FC Köln are set to renew their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges, and a move could be completed as early as next week.
One year after missing out on his signature, FC Köln are set to make another attempt to sign Steffen Tigges from Borussia Dortmund. According to multiple reports in Germany, the move is already close to completion, and the Black and Yellows will receive a transfer fee of 2-3 million euros for the striker.
FC Köln are looking for a new striker to partner Anthony Modeste, and head coach Steffen Baumgart is convinced that Tigges has the potential to play regularly in the Bundesliga. According to Kicker, Tigges is Baumgart’s top target for the striker position.
Steffen Tigges is currently on the road to recovery after breaking his left ankle during a training session in March. The 23 year old scored three goals in nine Bundesliga appearances in the recently concluded season.
FC Köln are looking to bolster their squad ahead of what promises to be a fascinating season for them. The Billy Goats have qualified for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League. And a move to Köln would give Tigges the chance to play regularly in the Bundesliga and Europe, which is something that he is unlikely to get at Borussia Dortmund.
The BVB bosses are looking to bring in a new striker to replace the Manchester City-bound Erling Haaland. So Tigges would likely only be fourth in the pecking order for strikers if he were to stay at Borussia Dortmund. The towering striker still has two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract. But it looks like he will be making the switch to Köln this summer.
