A number of Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective national teams on Saturday, including Nico Schlotterbeck who delivered a stunning assist for Germany.

New Borussia Dortmund signings Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle started together in central defence for the first time ever on Saturday as Germany were held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary in the UEFA Nations League.

Hungary took the shock lead in just the sixth minute through Zsolt Nagy. But their advantage was short lived, as Jonas Hofmann made it 1-1 just three minutes later. The Gladbach winger got on the end of Schlotterbeck’s cross field long ball before rounding past Peter Gulacsi and firing the ball into the empty net.

Germany weren’t able to find a breakthrough despite the late introductions of Julian Brandt and Karim Adeyemi. And the game ended all square, leaving Hansi Flick’s side in third place in their UEFA Nations League group on the back of three straight 1-1 draws.

In the same group, England and Italy played out a goalless draw in what was the repeat of the Euro 2020 final. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham remained on the bench for the Three Lions.

Thomas Meunier and Axel Witsel both started, while Thorgan Hazard came off the bench as Belgium were held to a 1-1 draw by Wales. Youri Tielemans gave the Red Devils the lead early in the second half, but Brennan Johnson’s late goal helped Wales earn a share of the spoils.
