Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges has completed his move to FC Köln, joining them on a four year contract.
Borussia Dortmund have announced the exit of Steffen Tigges, with the striker joining FC Köln on a permanent transfer. The 23 year old has signed a four year contract with the Billy Goats, and Dortmund will receive a transfer fee of around 2-3 million euros for him.
It was reported last week that FC Köln head coach Steffen Baumgart is a big fan of Tigges. And now they have managed to sign him, one year after initially showing interest. Köln are set to compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season, and Tigges will be hoping to bolster their front line.
The former Osnabrück striker said ahead of the move that Borussia Dortmund will forever hold a place in his heart.
"“I owe a lot to many people at this club. I would like to thank my teammates, my coaches and the staff members of the first-team as well as the U-23s for the past three years.”“I would especially like to thank every single fan who has supported us and me even in difficult times. I have always enjoyed playing in front of and for you! BVB will forever hold a place in my heart.”"
Steffen Tigges joined Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and captained the U-23s to the Regionalliga West title during the 2020/21 season. The striker’s performances for BVB II helped him earn his maiden first-team opportunity in December 2020. He made a good impression on those in charge, and was rewarded with a place in the first-team for the 2021/22 season.
Tigges made 15 first-team appearances in the recently concluded season, scoring three Bundesliga goals (including one against FC Köln). He suffered a fracture on his left ankle during a training session in March, and was forced to miss the rest of the season.
Tigges is currently on the road to recovery, and Köln will be hoping to have him fit in time for pre-season.
