Report: Release clause in BVB target David Raum’s contract not valid for this summer

Borussia Dortmund will likely have to pay around 40 million euros to sign David Raum this summer as the release clause in his contract will not be not valid until 2023.
It is no secret that Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing a new left-back this summer, and TSG Hoffenheim’s David Raum is the first name on their list of targets. But signing him will not be cheap for the Black and Yellows, with Kicker reporting that the exit clause in his contract can only be activated from next summer.
Sky Sport and BILD had earlier reported that the release clause in Raum’s contract means his signature would cost around 30 million euros. Raum only extended his contract with Hoffenheim in January and has four years left on his current deal. With the release clause not valid for this summer, Hoffenheim have the chance to set whatever price they want for the 24 year old.
According to Kicker, signing Raum this summer would be significantly more expensive but not completely unrealistic. A transfer fee of around 40 million euros could be enough to convince Hoffenheim to sell. In addition to Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City are also thought to be keeping tabs on Raum.
The magazine further adds that Hoffenheim have not yet received a single concrete enquiry for the former Greuther Fürth defender.
David Raum has established himself as one of the top left-backs in the Bundesliga, and is also a Germany international. So it is no surprise that Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing him. But in order to be able to afford him, they must first sell at least one of Raphael Guerreiro and Nico Schulz.
