Former Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Mario Götze has sealed his return to the Bundesliga, joining Eintracht Frankfurt on a three year contract.

Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Mario Götze from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven after activating the release clause of four million euros in his contract. The 30 year old has signed a three year contract with Oliver Glasner’s side, sealing his return to the Bundesliga two years after his departure from Borussia Dortmund.

Götze made the decision to leave PSV Eindhoven this summer after spending the last two years in the Netherlands. A number of clubs were said to be interested in signing him, including AC Milan and SL Benfica. But Eintracht Frankfurt won the race for his signature.

Götze made 52 appearances for PSV Eindhoven in the recently concluded season, scoring 12 goals and assisting a further 11. His performances were crucial to PSV’s success, as they won the Dutch Cup and came close to winning the Eredivisie title. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner now joins Eintracht Frankfurt, who won the UEFA Europa League this season.

Eintracht Frankfurt will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and Götze’s experience will make him a valuable addition to their attack. The Eagles also have Borussia Dortmund loanee Ansgar Knauff in their squad.
